Basement makeover

For the girls big Christmas gift we decided to make the basement over into a more usable and active play space. We were hopeful this would help them get rid of some of their excess energy, especially during the long winter. Here is what it looked like before (yikes).

Basement before

After lots of cleaning up and moving things around, Matt got to work building a slide platform. We knew we wanted a slide and had planned on buying one, but one day noticed one in our neighbor’s trash pile, so wahoo! free slide. It is a little bigger than we planned, but that means more fun. My parents bought them a gym mat and we added a little foam balance beam thing and the spirobouncer. We also brought a few toys down from upstairs that are better suited for this environment. Here is the basement now.

Matt did a wonderful job on the slide platform, solid as a rock. He even added some decorative duct tape to make it look fancier. I’ve even taken a few trips down the slide.

Underneath the slide is a little reading/snuggling nook, using the pillow bed things my sister made them a few years ago.

We can’t have everything all spread out at once, but that’s ok. The gym mat is currently folded in half.

We initially bought a small trampoline, but it was bigger than expected and we started worrying about them playing on it, so we returned it and got a spirobouncer on sale after Christmas.

And since we have a disco light, why not add it to the basement and have some exciting Saturday night parties.

vacation

One day I’ll back to posting about B’s third birthday and Christmas day, but for now I’ve sorted through our pictures from Florida, so that’s what you get 🙂

We started with an engagement party for my sister and her fiancee and I took about two pictures, oops.

We opened some Christmas gifts from my family, did a little piano playing, and hanging with some grandparents and aunts (Aunt Kitty was teaching Greta how to crochet).

We also went to the Japanese steakhouse, which was something new for all the girls. Beatrice loved it the most and Eloise was quite scared of the heat. Everyone tried out chopsticks and did pretty well.

We went to one of my favorite museums in town and got to see some old buildings (which Greta LOVED reading about), some animals, and the two oldest went on the zipline, which they LOVED. Oh and Felicity got her first taste of playground swings.
