yard sale success

Saturday 29 September 2007 at 12:03 pm We had our yard sale this morning. We made $141! Not bad. I was hoping for $100, so we did better than planned. I still have some stuff to get rid of, but not nearly as much as I did. But now it is time to get cleaning around this place and packing.

onion tears

Wednesday 26 September 2007 at 6:59 pm Something happened to the site today. I have no idea what. I think it is back mostly together.

I am making red beans and rice tonight for The Office premiere tomorrow. This involves cutting up onions. In general I have very sensitive eyes. I must always have sunglasses on when outside or I squint. Back to the onions. I had to cut up two cups. First, I did buy sweet onions because everyone says they are easier on the eyes. Second, I used the food processor, which should make my contact minimal. After a couple of minutes of being in the onion kitchen I could barely see. Honestly, it makes me a little dizzy and I have to go sit down. I looked in the mirror and my eyes were completely bloodshot, not a drop of white remaining. And of course there were onion tears pouring down my face. And a few real tears from the pain the onions were causing. Am I the only oddball who this happens to? Usually I have Matt home to do the onion chopping .

Now I must cook and stay away from the onions.

yard sale

Monday 24 September 2007 at 5:41 pm We are hoping to have a yard sale this weekend. I am supposed to be packing and pulling right now, but you can see that isn't exactly happening. This is the only weekend we can really have a yard sale and we just realized yesterday that we actually should have one. The reason we are having a yard sale is because I don't want to drive all over town trying to donate every little thing, when most places just charge too much. I like to donate my used stuff to Catholic Charities because I know they just give the stuff to people in need, but they only take clothing here and I think I read in the church bulletin that they can't accept anything right now. So yard sale it is.

I haven't had a yard sale in years, probably since high school or earlier. Anyone have any tips? We are probably going to have it from 8-12, but at 11 everything will be free. I don't want to be left with all sorts of random junk. I think I will just advertise on craigslist and put a sign down the street.

Since the yard sale is this weekend, that means I have to finish (or begin) sorting through all of the junk in this house before then. And this week is tv premiere week. Off to work...

Free DC Metrocards

Sunday 23 September 2007 at 12:30 pm I have a bunch of old DC metrocards from college and beyond. They all have a little bit of money on them, totaling about $25. If anyone wants them please email me at lucy at macyfron.com. I really have no idea if they will take metrocards that are 5 or more years old, but if you want to try let me know. You would have to try and combine them all into one card, but I think you can do that at Metro Center. I hate to just throw them away, so email me for free metrocards!

moving process

Thursday 20 September 2007 at 09:58 am Boy, this moving stuff takes a lot of coordination. I think I have decided on a move date. I haven't talked to Matt about it yet, but I'm sure he will be fine with it. The move date will be just the day the movers come and take our stuff. I haven't really decided when we will arrive in San Antonio. I have hopefully nailed down an apartment. I sent the application and deposit overnight yesterday, so it should be arriving there any minute. I have had two movers come by for estimates. By the end of today I should have two written estimates in my hands. It is definitely going to cost a lot of money. Luckily Matt's company is giving us most of it.

We will most likely be moved in a big truck, a 53' 18-wheeler. The reason for the jumbo truck is so that Matt's car can ride with our stuff and we don't have to wait for someone else's stuff to fill up the remainder of the truck. Then we will get everything back at the same time. This does lead to some problems. One being that the truck cannot fit into the apartment complex. Two being that most storage units cannot accommodate such a big vehicle. I have found one storage place so far that will be able to accommodate us, but I can't reserve the unit until I have a final date, and I can't reserve it this far in advance. So we shall just wait and see.

In other news, The Office (and every other tv show) start next week!! I am excited! There was all kinds of great Office junk at Target in the dollar bins this week. Speaking of Office stuff, there is so much that I want from Cafe Press, especially this sticker.

Next week is my last week of work! Only about two weeks before my first paid wedding! Three weeks until movers come! Four weeks until Matt defends!

sleep habits

Tuesday 18 September 2007 at 7:07 pm 1. I am going to try something different here. I currently hate the way the blog puts most of the text below the cut, so I am now going to write the whole blog in the "Introduction" category. Let me know what you think.

2. On to the actual post:

Let me set the scene. I am sleeping soundly and comfortably, both temperature-wise and position-wise, when for some reason I wake up. The reasons can very from just not sleeping well, to someone coming in the house, to the cat jumping on my head, etc. The instant I am awoken I am all of a sudden on fire. I must have all the covers off of me immediately. Does this happen to anyone else? Matt kind of hates when this happens because I tend to pull the covers off of him, which in turn wakes him up. Then about 2 minutes later I am freezing cold again. This can happen multiple times in the night. Maybe my body doesn't understand temperature regulation when it is sleeping.

Today I met with the first of three movers. I have another meeting tomorrow and one on Friday. The first movers estimated 10,000 lbs. Is that a lot? I think it might be. Hopefully we can get rid of some of that.

Our oldest niece turns 12 today! So Happy Birthday Kaitlyn! I just spoke with her and she went and got her nails painted bright pink today.
