So you know how half the world is obsessed with celebrities and their baby bumps, well one of the blogs I read is holding a
blogger baby bump watch contest. Since I post pictures of my bump pretty regularly, I figured I would go ahead and do it this week. Here I am at 28 weeks. I am also posting a front shot, so you can guess whether it is a girl or boy by the way I am carrying. A convenience store clerk guessed boy today.
I had a dream that the baby was a girl. But I also had a dream about a baby boy that we adopted. So who really knows. Maybe we will have a baby girl and then adopt a baby boy later or something. Or maybe these dreams mean absolutely nothing. This child has been moving nonstop tonight.

Anyone who didn't go to Catholic interested in seeing the Pope on April 16 in Washington, DC? If so, I can supposedly request tickets. Let me know and I will try and get some for you. I cannot go, as I am not going to fly after my trip to Florida at the end of March, but I would love to be able to go. How many times in your life do you get to see the Pope? Not too many. Let me know if you want some tickets.

Somehow this got posted, but it got posted on the day I started writing it and not the day I hit publish. So, those of you reading through a feedreader will see it for a second time and those of you who read through the actual site will probably be seeing it for the first time. Sorry for the duplicate, but two people have asked where it is :)
So
Mary Grace tagged me. Apparently that means I have to write 7 things about myself and then tag some others. Let's see what I can think of...
1. My first word was boat. My parents took this as a sign to buy a sailboat. We had it for a few years before it got to be too much work to go down and work on it and also to take 3 kids out on the water. The sailboat later won some local races and such.
2. I had a lot of collections as a kid, erasers, shopping bags (you know the nice, big fancy ones), pen pals, stamps, stuffed animals, and I'm sure there were plenty of other things that I cannot think of today. [Emergency side note: A bird just flew into the kitchen window. It flew away, so I guess it is ok.] I think I finally recycled my shopping bag collection, but it could still be in my closet at my parents' house. I had bags from all over the place, and some pretty darn cool ones as well. I had pen pals on almost every continent. I'm not sure I ever had any in Africa, but I think I have most every where else covered. With the advent of the internet I have been meaning to look up some of them and see what they are up to these days. Think they would remember me after 14 or so years? Probably not.
3. I like soft things, a lot. I don't know when or how this started, but for as long as I can remember I always want soft things. When my mom and I go to the market in Atlanta, I just can't stop touching things. Sometimes there are whole aisles of soft things and I just want them all. I am kind of obsessed. Maybe it is some sort of mental disorder. Matt likes to make fun of me for saying things are so soft and making him feel it. I have entered so many contests to win soft baby blankets under the guise that I would give them to this child growing inside of me, but I'm not totally sure I would actually give them to the child. I may keep them for myself. How come they don't make adult clothes as soft as baby ones.
4. I am not saying this to brag at all, but more because I think it is kind of funny. Almost every male friend I had from about 10th grade through college, eventually developed a crush on me. Most of them at some point decided to tell me, which was always a tad awkward. Sometimes they were mutual and we dated for a short while, other times they weren't and I was caught totally off guard. Moral of the story, apparently I am not initially attractive to most people, but once you get to know me, I am totally attractive. Or something like that. After college either people stopped developing crushes on me or stopped telling me because I was in a serious relationship or something.
5. I am a worrier. I worry about totally irrational and crazy things. I don't really worry much about normal worrying type things like money and such. I worry about people dying, mostly my husband. When he doesn't answer his cell phone or forgets to call (because he is a boy and always forgets to call), I assume the worst. Usually the worst is he got in a car accident or got attacked by someone at the gas station. Yes crazy I know. He really has gotten much, much better about calling in the 8ish years we have been together.
6. I want a beautiful flowering yard, but umm that is expensive. I have started planning our yard in my head and hopefully slowly it will come true. I will tell you that it does involve a mandarin orange tree.
7. I am running out of things. Neither me or either of my sisters got into college where we wanted to go. It all worked out in the end and I think everyone ended up where they would be the happiest, but the schools we went to were not the top choice.
The end.
The rules:
1. List seven things about yourself that people may not know.
2. Link the person who sent this to you and leave a comment on their blog so their readers can visit yours.
3. Post the rules on your blog.
4. Tag seven random people at the end of your post, linking their blog. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
I am kind of ignoring the rules. Feel free to do this on your blog if you have one and then tell me about it.

For those of you wondering how much your tax rebate will be, you can calculate it
here. Of course you must have already filed your taxes for this year to calculate it. Enjoy!

I am getting some new business cards printed up and I need some help with the picture selection. I already have some wedding business cards, but I want to try and get more into the baby/kid portrait business since I think it may be easier since I will have a kid and meet other moms and dads more often than single people. I have narrowed it down a little bit, but I want some other opinions please.

Did anyone watch Ellen today? In general, if you aren't watching Ellen you are missing out. It is one of the only shows I watch every day. Of course those of you who work probably don't get the chance to watch it, so I'm sorry. Today Ellen played a clip of this Oklahoma representative, Sally Kern, who was speaking about her thoughts on homosexuals. I'm not very political or anything, but I couldn't resist sharing this. The first time I heard it I was laughing because I couldn't really believe what this woman was saying. I mean people really think this stuff? I thought I would share it with those who haven't heard it. The
only version I can find has this whole little video thing that goes along with it. The real important part of the message starts at about 50 seconds. Let me know what you think.
So my thoughts:
1. What societies were destroyed by embracing homosexuality?
2. Homosexuality is a bigger threat than terrorism? Really? Who knew?
3. They are indoctrinating children as young as two? Who are they? Al Qaeda?
4. Homosexuality is deadly and spreading? Crazy.
The end.

So there is thing going on around women blogland.
An Ultimate Blog Party. Fun huh? Basically everyone writes up a little bit about themselves and then posts their link so that others can come visit them. Plus there are prizes. Many bloggers are giving away prizes and the main hosts,
5 minutes for mom, is giving away a bunch of prizes if you participate. So I am participating.
Those who are new here, welcome. My name is Lucy. I recently moved to Texas with my husband, Matt. Together we are Macy. We are expecting our first child in June and really can't wait. Both of us are engineers. Currently I am 'retired' from engineering. I am also trying (not very hard lately) to get a photography business going. I shoot weddings and child portraits. I have been in a photographic slump that hopefully will end when the baby arrives.
Lately I write about lots of baby things. Other than that I just write about my day to day life and the things that happen that I find amusing or frustrating or whatever.
Some of my favorite prizes in the Ultimate Blog Party Giveaway are:
* A sling from
Peekaboobaby.
* A Custom Tie Dyed Layette Set from
Twist and Shout.
* A sling from
Sassyfrazz.
* A BPA free Sippy Cup Sampler Pack from
The Soft Landing Blog.
* Shea Butter from
Sudz N Bubbles.
So join in the party and make some new friends. Thanks for stopping by.

I am curious how much it actually costs to have and raise a child. Has anyone kept track of their kid expenses to see how much they really spend? I am going to try and do it for this little one. Is anyone interested in reading about that? If so, I will document it here as well, otherwise I will just keep it to myself. So far I am thinking the first six months will be pretty cheap. Once we pay all the hospital bills and such, we won't have to buy food for the child (as it will be breastfed), and after our initial cloth diaper investment of about $400 we won't buy anymore diapers ever. There are obviously things that change with each family. We will have a good amount of hand-me-down clothes, especially if the baby is a girl. Both of our parents are quite generous and my parents especially, since this is their first grandchild (and there are so real signs of another showing up for a while). We are having two total baby showers and any gifts we receive will not be included in the cost of a child because well we didn't buy the stuff, and some things might not be all that necessary anyways. Not that we aren't totally thankful, because we are, but I don't really want to include things that we didn't buy ourselves, I just want this to be a documentation of what we spend on our child.

How many phone books do you have at your house? Back when we were in the apartment I grabbed one from some place that was giving them away, thinking it would be nice to have ONE phone book. Then the phone book companies decided to send us one or two while we were in the apartment. In the past two weeks we have received another two phone books in the mail. These phone books are exactly the same, both AT&T from Nov. 2007, and both addressed to Matt. I don't get it. We hardly use one phone book, why in the world would we need 5 phone books. Got any suggestions of creative things to do with phone books? I am kind of expecting a few more phone books since the house phone is in my name, and I have yet to receive any with my name specifically on them.
In other news, we had a monsoon of a storm today. Finally some rain. I'm not sure it has really rained in more than a month. We may have had a couple of sprinkle days, where the total rainfall was .01 inches or something, but today it downpoured and thundered. The wind was blowing like crazy. I took some pictures, but haven't downloaded them just yet. The storm brought in some chilly weather as well. I just walked to get the mail and it was windy and cold (probably around 40-something without the windchill). Ok just checked the weather page and it says 45 with winds of 25 mph, making for a windchill of 36, pretty cold compared to yesterdays high of about 75.

Matt wasn't supposed to be back in SA until Thursday night, but this morning around 8:15 he showed up at our house! What a great surprise to start the day. Maybe this day will turn out more productive than most days. Have a great one!

I didn't vote today. Not because I didn't want to, but because we didn't get registered in time. Apparently checking the box at the driver's license office that says "Would you like to register to vote?" doesn't really mean that they will register you to vote, they just happen to be curious if you want to register or not. I have mailed both of our registration forms in, so we should get to vote in the next election (I think there may be a local something or other in May). Obama is in town tonight, he will hearing the results form here. I think it might be kind of fun to go, but I know I won't. I'm lazy and really don't care that much about politics, plus they probably won't announce a winner until after I go to bed. But it would be pretty exciting to go, not that I am necessarily an Obama supporter, I just think it would be kind of interesting. I saw Hillary once in high school. She came to some function in town that I went to. I also met the first President Bush in high school. Both of these events were due to the boy I was dating and both occurred within the 6 months we were dating. Strange.
My temper has been particularly bad lately. I don't know if it is because I am pregnant or for some other reason. My patience with myself and others is almost zero. I am hoping it greatly improves after the baby arrives. I just get so frustrated with myself for dropping things or spilling things or being my general clumsy self. Was your patience and temper worse during pregnancy? I don't think I really get as annoyed or frustrated with Matt, but definitely with strangers, like bad drivers, and the cable company.
We got a new file cabinet. I am pretty excited! I just have to wait for Matt to get back to bring it upstairs so I can start filling it. And then I am really, truly going to work on the office. I have done some work in our bedroom and closet and it really looks a lot better. Now we just need some more furniture to fill it. One day.
I'm hoping to start a garden tomorrow. I will be buying the little tray thing to start the seeds in and then transplanting in a few weeks or so. Any suggestions on veggies/herbs that are easy to grow and delicious? Ok, time for dinner, very hungry.
P.S. This whole post sounds very much like an email to me. Oh well.

This weekend we went out to the ranch. Both of us were pretty skeptical and got more and more frightened as we got closer. But we went anyways. Basically we sat with some lady for about 45 minutes and learned about timeshares. We were both intrigued. We went on a tour of the ranch, which seemed nice enough, but not too ranch like to me. It definitely had more of a resort feel to it, which is what it really is anyways. After the tour the lady brought us back to talk about how much everything costs and such. We were pretty much decided that at this point we weren't ready for this kind of commitment, especially with a baby on the way, and Matt working for a start up company. Plus we did just buy a house. She wrote down the numbers and while the overall total wasn't bad ($20k for 7 days of vacations per year for the rest of our lives and the life of whoever we will the timeshare to), they wanted $4k that day and also were charging 19 % interest until it was paid off. Sounds like a bad credit card to me. The lady wanted us to be straight forward, so we were, and we said we weren't ready for this kind of commitment this year. She instantly got cold and kind of mean sounding. Hey she wanted the truth, not some we will think about it answer. So we went to the desk to leave and got to draw our prize. We won a trip (airfare and hotel) to either Orlando, Reno, Anaheim, or Las Vegas for two nights. We have decided we would rather go to Vegas. Neither of us have every been there. We have friends we can stay with if we go to Orlando and Reno and Anaheim just don't sound that interesting. So some time in the next year we will be going to Vegas.
Other than that the weekend was uneventful. We watched Wedding Crashers two plus times. I went to the doctor today. Nothing too exciting there. Gained some weight, chose a hospital, normal blood pressure, and drank the glucose drink. Anything exciting happen to anyone this weekend?
