How many more contests will I win? I hope lots, I will certainly keep entering them! Check out the sidebar list of places that I regularly enter contests if you are interested in entering any.

cheap ice cream

Wednesday 30 April 2008 at 08:32 am So yesterday was FREE ice cream, but today is CHEAP ice cream. Tonight is 31 cent scoop night at Baskin Robbins. I will definitely be attending this as there is one right down the street from here. Yum, yum.

crib troubles

Tuesday 29 April 2008 at 2:05 pm We received our crib in the mail last week and assembled it this past weekend. Yesterday the mattress was delivered. From all I have read all crib mattresses are the same size and all cribs accommodate the same mattress size. The mattress we got seems a tad small. You are supposed to only be able to squeeze one finger between the crib and the mattress. The mattress seems to fit in the width department, but it is a little short in the length department. So since all mattresses are measured to be the same length, how do I know which mattress to try? I guess I have to have this one mailed back, which will probably turn into a huge hassle and then order another one and wait for it to arrive and hope it fits better. Is there any way to actually know which mattress will fit better? I have emailed (they have no phone number listed on their site) the manufacturer of the crib and hope to hear back from them soon.

Free Ice Cream

Monday 28 April 2008 at 8:27 pm Free ice cream tomorrow, Tuesday, April 29, at Ben and Jerry's. Enjoy! I won't be going because the only one nearby is downtown at the riverwalk and getting down there is kind of annoying and then I would have to pay for parking and the gas to get there and then stand in line for a long time, and so it probably isn't really worth it.

contest winner

Friday 25 April 2008 at 5:12 pm The winner of the BumGenius cloth diaper is #17, Sarah P. who said:
"1. I absolutely promise to use that wonderful diaper!!!
2. I would love to switch to cloth, but the start up price is so steep. I'm praying to soon. This would be a wonderful gift--to me. I'd love to use cloth diapers for price and to keep disposables out of landfills.
3. I will definitely send you my thoughts on this diaper!
4. I live in the USA. :D "

Congratulations! I will be emailing you shortly. If I don't hear back from Sarah P. within a couple of days, I will draw a new name. Thanks to everyone who participated. I am still surprised at how many people are already using cloth diapers!

8 more hours

Friday 25 April 2008 at 09:07 am Only about 8 more hours to enter the cloth diaper contest. I can't believe how many people found the contest who actually already use cloth diapers! Way to go girls! I think only one of my regular readers has entered. I know there are others who use or are going to use cloth diapers who read regularly. You can win too! Just make sure to enter by 5 pm CST today! I just received my diapers from my mom yesterday. I have so many! I think I may have over ordered. I guess more is better than not having enough, especially in the beginning when the baby will go through oodles of diapers every day.

So go enter!

feet

Wednesday 23 April 2008 at 7:23 pm Did anyone else's feet grow during pregnancy? I know it is somewhat common. My mom's feet grew 1/2 size with each kid. In the past 3 weeks or so, my feet have hit a huge growth spurt and I am kind of disappointed. Before pregnancy and really up until a couple of weeks ago I wore a solid size 7. This weekend I bought a pair of shoes that were a size 8, today I bought a pair that are an 8 1/2. Are my feet going to shrink down at all after the baby is born? In general my feet don't seem that swollen, just longer and slightly wider. I am going to have oodles of shoes to get rid of, and I know I won't be replacing most of them. It makes me sad to have to lose so many pairs of great shoes. This morning I tried to put on some of my nicer shoes, some black loafer type things, and well my foot wouldn't even go in them. I had to go out and buy a new pair so that I could go to a meeting today. I thought my shoes just might get a little tighter, but no, they won't even fit at all.

The baby continues to jump around a lot, especially after being fed. My hands are more swollen and this weekend I was a little frightened they were so swollen. Luckily I took my rings off a while ago. My mom had to have her engagement ring cut off during one pregnancy (I think it was with me). I didn't really want to have that happen, so I took mine off a few months ago, when they got a little tight from the heat of Texas. I always feel like people are judging me though, even though they probably aren't.

Tomorrow our crib and mattress arrive! And the box of diapers and baptismal gowns from my mom! Fun mail! We have decided to just have the baptism the weekend when everyone will be here in July. Hopefully the baby won't get sick. Now comes the hassle of actually purchasing everyone's plane tickets.

This weekend in our childbirth class we were the only couple who did not know the sex of our baby. Everyone else was having a boy. Strange huh? Does that mean we are having a boy or that we are the oddballs and are having a girl?

Bloggy Giveaways Quarterly Carnival Button

It is that time of year again, time for the Bloggy Giveaways Carnival. I haven't participated in a while, but I would like to now. Since it is Earth Day I thought I would make my giveaway earth friendly. I will be giving away one BumGenius one-size cloth diaper. While I haven't started using them just yet (about 7 weeks to go), I have a bunch on hand. There are so many great reasons to use cloth diapers. I really want others to start using cloth diapers, so there will be a couple of qualifications to enter.

1. You must promise to use the diaper, or give it to someone who will.
2. You must tell me why you are considering switching to cloth diapers (or why you use cloth diapers if you currently use them).
3. You must send me your thoughts on the diaper after you use it.
4. You must live in the US (or have a US address for me to ship to).

Since the diaper is a one-size diaper, it should fit most babies from birth to potty. The contest will close on Friday, April 25th at 5 pm CST.

Good luck!

32 weeks

Friday 18 April 2008 at 5:30 pm The time is flying by and soon the baby will be here!! This week I went to Houston for a couple of days. My dear friend, Kristen, was in town on business and I wanted to see her. She is also pregnant, due in August. We took some pregnant lady pictures, although I had to set the camera up on the timer, so they aren't great. We are a little out of focus, but still fun. My belly looks like it is eating her belly.

32 weeks, 24 weeks

32 weeks, 24 weeks

Tomorrow we will be at childbirth class all day. I'm not too excited about it. Hopefully they provide us with lunch, but I kind of doubt it. I ordered our crib and a mattress today. Hopefully they will be here in a week or two.

weekend of baby

Monday 14 April 2008 at 11:00 am This past weekend we did many baby related things. On Friday night we went to an infant/child CPR class. It was informative and useful, but hopefully we won't ever have to use anything we learned. I took a CPR class when I was about 12 or something, so that I could tell potential babysitting clients that I knew CPR. I have never used it and things have changed since 15 years ago anyways. Apparently, the American Heart Association is always updating the protocol. Today it is 30 compressions and 2 breaths for most everyone. Although there is some research that suggests for adults only compressions are needed.

Saturday morning we went to a baptism preparation class at our church. This was a total waste of time. It may have been helpful for those who know nothing about baptism in the Catholic Church, but other than that, I don't know if it was useful for anyone. The man mostly told stories and anecdotes. This class is required to baptize your child at our church. We wanted to go before the baby was born so we didn't have to deal with it and a newborn at the same time. Plus we are considering baptizing the baby shortly after birth since most of our family will be here (and will have traveled great distances to get here). We have a tentative date set for the baptism. Our main concern is the baby will be very young, maybe only 1.5-4 weeks old. During baptisms at our church, the parents carry the child around the church during the procession and those in the aisle mark the sign of the cross on the baby's forehead. While this is nice in general, when you have such a young baby I am not sure it is such a great idea. So far the alternate options are to ask the priest not to say the part about everyone please mark the sign of the cross on the baby's forehead, or to put a hat on the baby and hope everyone just marks the hat instead of the actual child. Then we get rid of the hat of germs. I am not overly concerned about germs in general, but with a baby that young, I don't want a bunch of strangers touching it. So we shall see. We will decide soon enough.

I finally got us in a childbirth class at another hospital. It is an all-day affair this coming Saturday. Fun stuff.

Our cloth diaper supply is growing and should be complete soon. My mom is going to be selling some in her store in Tally, so if anyone wants any let me know. So far she has ordered Thristies and BumGenius brands. My collection of those should be arriving here in the next two weeks or so.

We got the dresser moved into the baby's room. I filled it up with clothes and blankets and misc other stuff. I even did a load of baby laundry this weekend. Everything is so tiny! Next up on the list is the rocking chair and crib. Then we should be mostly set. We have a few more misc things to buy, which we will hopefully buy in the next few weeks.

Alright enough of baby stuff for now. We only have about 8ish weeks to go! Time flies!

freezer meals

Wednesday 09 April 2008 at 12:11 pm In preparation for the baby I am going to try and make some meals to stick in the freezer, that way we will just pull it out and pop it in the oven or whatever. I'm looking for suggestions of things that freeze well. So far, my ideas are lasagna, chili, meatballs, and yeah that's about it. Send me some ideas or recipes or whatever. I would love to have a freezer full of yummy things to eat when the baby arrives. Thanks.

garden

Tuesday 08 April 2008 at 2:13 pm A couple of weeks ago we planted our garden outside. Yes it is warm enough for that. It has been mostly in the 80s lately, with a few random 70 something degree days thrown in there. We planted a lot of stuff for a couple of reasons: 1. this is our first garden and we can, 2. we have no idea what will actually grow here, and 3. because we like lots of yummy things. We planted cantaloupe, watermelon, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, spinach, broccoli, lettuce, corn, green beans, and squash. So far most everything seems to be doing well and growing bigger each day. The cucumbers don't seem to be doing very well, almost all of the plants have died. We will try to plant a few more seeds to see if we get any plants out of them. We haven't done much to the plants besides water every day. Here is a picture of the garden from last week.

We also planted two blackberry bushes. We are planning to get some strawberry bushes as well, although we may be a little late for those, but I don't really know.

Here are some of the berries that have formed on the blackberry bush!

Lastly, we planted a lemon tree in the backyard. It has grown quite a bit since we planted it, and there are oodles of little lemons on it. Hopefully some will make it to the ripening stage.

baby happy or unhappy?

Tuesday 08 April 2008 at 11:54 am I have a question for those who have been pregnant at some point in their life. People will say that the movements of the baby indicate either happiness at something or unhappiness at something. How can you tell the difference? Two people have mentioned that their baby didn't like ultrasounds, how do they know that? Other people say when they are at church or a special person comes around that the baby likes it or is happy or something. How do they know? This little baby in my belly moves a good amount at certain times of the day, but I don't normally say that whatever I am doing is causing it to be happy or upset at that particular time. What are your feelings?

I need to download some pictures so I can share some fun things (or rather boring things). Will do soon.

styrofoam

Sunday 06 April 2008 at 08:51 am We went to Sam's yesterday. I got an icee and Matt got a drink. Nothing too unusual for us. I think they have new cups with a special message on them. The message is "This cup weighs about 60% less than a similar-sized paper cup." Could someone explain the purpose of this message? Is it supposed to make me feel like I am throwing less trash away because it weighs less, even though it is made of styrofoam? Or does it mean the cup feels lighter, but there is really the same amount of drink in it? I just don't understand.

slack blogger

Tuesday 01 April 2008 at 9:27 pm So I have posted in a long time, I don't really know how long, but long enough. No real reason. Last week was a pretty productive week for me, which was nice. Then on Friday we went to Tally for a baby shower. I came back Monday evening. It was a nice weekend, getting to see some old friends and my parents. The weather was lovely and all of the flowers were in bloom (and I totally slacked and didn't take any pictures). We are now planing to be in town until the baby arrives, except for maybe a trip or two to Houston. This morning I went to the doctor and everything is a-ok.

While at home, I helped my mom place her first order of cloth diapers. She is going to start selling them in her store, so if anyone is interested in buying any, let me know. So far she is carrying BumGenius and Thirsties. I also added my order to her order, so soon I should have a large supply of diapers.

We have a tick problem in our yard. The grass needs to cut, which can cause ticks to breed, but they were there before the grass was long. I don't know where they came from or how to get rid of them. The only other reason they could be here is from all the birds in the yard. They come to the bird feeder and while I have never had a problem with ticks and a bird feeder it can supposedly be an attraction to ticks. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the ticks? I don't really want any of us getting some scary disease from them. I also don't really want to put a bunch of chemicals on the lawn because we just planted our vegetable garden and I don't want all the chemicals in our food.

Hopefully there will be some informative posts later in the week. I have started a couple of posts, but haven't actually finished them just yet.
